Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1976 "Custom Cloud" for
purchase. The March 1976 cover of Car and Driver features a picture
of a car with a luxurious front grill that looks a lot like the
prestigious Rolls Royce with big words that said "Wrong. It's a
Chevrolet". Yes, the car pictured here is a 1976 Chevrolet Monte
Carlo. Jon Tedesco was a hot rodder building customs when he got an
interesting offer from the South Florida Chevrolet Dealer
Association wanting some help to improve sales. They showed up to
the 1975 Miami International Motor Show and the 1976 New York Auto
Show when Rolls Royce execs were furious to find out Tedesco
actually had a patent to produce these cars and were able to get a
cease & desist.
Rolls Royce not surprisingly won in court and stopped the
production of the Custom Clouds. Tedesco would produce some more
along the same line of thinking called "Custom Coaches", but they
did not have the same fanfare. The amount of Custom Clouds produced
are not known. Some claim only 14 were produced. Some believe there
were more produced, but official numbers are unknown. There weren't
many built in that warehouse in Florida before they were shut down
so this is an interesting piece of automotive history we are
offering here. It's very original out of a private collection ready
for the next owner. It's a smooth driving 400ci V8 and automatic
transmission that gets a ton of looks as you go down the road!
