A Nicely Preserved Classic Cadillac
This 1949 Cadillac reminds you of what quality and luxury were all about. Mostly original and believed to be low-mileage, this car has been well cared for and is ready for a family trip to the ice cream shop, a night out on the town or a weekend get-away. Wherever you choose to drive, this Cadillac will stand out as a classic example of America’s finest automobile!
1949 Cadillac—Motor Trend’s Car of the Year
1949 was the high-water mark for Detroit’s most luxurious post-war car: the Cadillac. What made them special was the introduction of a new power plant to go along with the car’s sleek styling and undeniable comfort. It is proof enough of this car’s lineage that Motor Trend named the 1949 Cadillac as its very first Car of the Year.
Very Nice Driving Car!
Paint and Chrome
The mostly original Blue paint is in marginal condition, with its share of nicks, chips and worn paint to demonstrate that this Cadillac has been driven and enjoyed.
The exterior chrome is in good condition and there is plenty of it!
The body and underside of the car appear free of rust and the engine compartment is nicely detailed.
Interior
The seat upholstery is in good condition with differing coverings in the front and rear.
Engine
The car’s 331-cubic inch overhead valve engine (160 hp) set the standard for Cadillac—and indeed GM—for the next several years. Higher revving, more fuel-efficient and 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor, this was the power plant of the future.
Transmission
The optional automatic transmission shifts properly, making this Cadillac a pleasure to drive.
Tires, Brakes, Safety and Monitoring Systems
This Model 62 has 4 wide whitewall radial tires, size 235/75 R 15 with plenty of tread.
All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges (temperature, amp and oil pressure) work properly. Similarly, the lights and turn signals (yes, turn signals) all work properly as do the brakes. The radio even plays. The clock has just been rebuilt and is available for installation. Attention will be needed for the wipers and the horn. The steering wheel has cracks but is functional and, apparently, original.
A Nice-running Example of Motor Trend’s Car of the Year
This 1949 Cadillac is a car to be enjoyed and used, more at home on the highway than the show circuit. These original cars are highly in demand and in short supply. They therefore represent not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. And if there was ever a car that transports you back to the post-war period this is it. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up” as you drive by with your famous Cadillac “V” hood ornament gleaming in the sunlight!
