For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in Jefferson, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

This car was built in California and lived most of its life in Colorado. It has been in Wisconsin about 25 years, but it has been offered great care and summer only driving. It was built as a Matador Red car with Black Vinyl top. The interior was red. Truthfully the red remnants we found clashed horribly with the red exterior. The conversion to black was doe 20 years ago. It still looks great. There is a rust spot as big as a silver dollar (see photo) in the passenger door. I believe it was caused by a plugged drain hole. Otherwise, the car is rust-free. the paint is at least 20 years old and shows it. It shines nice, but has scars, scratches, dings, etc. I see no bondo evidence. The underside is very solid and clean. It is not detailed. One rear floor pan was professionally replaced with a stamped pan. I am thinking 30 or more years ago. There is no rust/bubble issues wit the vinyl top. The chrome is original and pretty nice. The glass is all good. The wheels and tires are nearly new and very nice. The powertrain is very noticeable. The original engine was blown up in 2009. Apparently it was beyond repair. The blow-up damaged the transmission. It was rebuilt. A 1969 396/375HP block was sourced. We gave documentation on all of this. The 375 HP engine was rebuilt using high quality components. It now has a hydraulic roller cam, Ross 11:1 pistons, ported/polished heads, Melling pump, headers, Performer intake, race-built 750 Holley, MSD Ball and billet distribution, electric cooling fan and March pulley system. There are minimal miles on the rebuilt engine and transmission. We also paperwork on the rebuild of the 12 bolt. It has 3.73 gears with a posi-traction unit. Hotchkiss suspension and sway bars were installed. This car will not wheel-hop and it pulls hard and straight. I am anxious to put some slick son it! I drove it on a warm day. Wow, what a torque monster! It will snap your neck. yet, the temperature gauge read 180 all the time. When I got into the city traffic in read 190. Stop and go traffic could not get it over 200 degrees. Disc brakes, power booster and power steering make for good handling and safe stopping. This car is not for amateurs! It is a total blast to drive. Drive it like it and enjoy it. It could use a paint job, but it certainly is not an embarrassment as it looks today. I am proud to show it off, you will be too.
