There is no doubt that the Volkswagen Beetle as earned the title as the most recognizable car in the world. There have been roughly 1.5 million Beetles produced since being developed by Ferdinand Porsche and introduced as the "Peoples Car" prior to WWII and only available to citizens of then Nazi Germany. Post WWII, Volkswagen began production of its Type I at there factory in Wolfsburg. The Type I carried over a simple yet very reliable engine and drivetrain along with an endearing yet utilitarian design that became an instant hit in Europe and beyond. Since, over 1.5 million Beetles have been built. The 1979 Karmann Edition is significant as it is the last VW Beetle produced in Germany at the Wolfsburg plant and represents an end of an era.
We are pleased to present this low mile, high quality 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Cabriolet Karmann Edition. The car remains highly original featuring just 45571 miles since new. Verbal history indicates that this VW is a three owner car out of the desert southwest. The second owners held the vehicle for over 25 years and drove the vehicle just 5000 miles. Since the car was acquired by a local enthusiast to be used for summer fun. Mechanically, the car is spot on. The motor was refurbished 5 years ago and recent services include brakes, fuel sending unit, fuel system service and oil service. The runs and drives as new. Being an Arizona car, the body and floors remain outstanding in all aspects, the interior is excellent and features new seat upholstery. The owner states that the car still retains its original paint, our visual inspection seems to confirm that and the paint shows excellent. Our test drive revealed an excellent running and driving Beetle that runs great, shifts smooth and stops straight.
The Volkswagen Beetle will always remain a global icon of automotive history. The 1979 Volkswagen Cabriolet is the most advanced and one of the most desirable of the run. These cars will always be in demand, an example such as this will always remain desirable.
