For Sale: 1982 Ferrari 512 BBI in Los Angeles, California

Vehicle Description

Historically Significant and Exceptionally Dialed In, ex Bill De Carr 1982 Ferrari 512 BBi. 50 State Legal, USDOT Federalized / CA BAR example, displaying less than 6,000 documented miles, which are believed to be original.

Bill De Carr was the original owner of this Fuel-Injected 1982 512 Berlinetta Boxer (BBi), which was imported from Europe into the U.S. by 1984. As Boxers were sold only in Europe, not the U.S., Bill brought in into the country *grey market*... at which point he had it Federalized into a difficult to obtain *50-State* car, California being included. Originally Rosso Corsa, Bill repainted his BBi in his famous *Bill De Carr* Red, a deep shade of Lipstick Red. This paint job consisted of 10 coats of red tint and then 10 more coats of clear and color mixed together. Likely the only Boxer of that color in the world.

About Bill R. *De Carr* Ortega, (b. April 20, 1925 - July 20, 2013):

Bill was a famous Southern California hot rod guy who started doing body work in the late '40's and worked with many other famous body and paint guys, such as: George Barris, Jerry Crain, and Junior. Bill's last name was originally *Ortega*, and later adapter the monicker *Bill De Carr*.

Bill owned 3 paint and body shops in Long Beach and Bellflower, CA. He was known for secretly mixing his combinations of paints and clears behind closed doors, in order for nobody else to know the secret recipes for his famous paint jobs. Many of BDC's clients had shown their Ferraris and Rolls Royces winning top awards across the country. These cars won an astounding 45 awards at the Pebble Beach Concour d'Elegance, including Best in Class and Best in Show.

Bill's widow Carmella has been quoted that .Bill was offered a job by Enzo Ferrari who wanted Bill to work for him back in Italy at the Ferrari Factory. However, Bill declined the offer from Enzo, wanting to keep his family in Southern California. He remained one of the top body and paint men in the country and stayed busy right up to the end of his life.
