For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Impala in Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. Take a close look at this car, as I don't think you'll find another one like it. Not only is this a very rare 1968 Impala SS427, but it is also a convertible. It is in fantastic condition and is loaded with great options and features; hideaway headlights, special instrumentation package, Vigilite fiber optic lamp monitoring, bumper guards, cowl induction, tilt column, woodgrain steering wheel, 8-track tape player, and more. The SS427 was only offered from 1967-1969 and is one of the rarest Impala models of all time. This was not just the SS option with a big motor; it was something else entirely. 1968 is the rarest of the bunch. Out of more than 700,000 Impalas produced that year, only 1,778 were the SS427. Further, given that convertibles represented less than 5% of Impala production for 1968, I would estimate this car is one of less than 200 built. This car is downright gorgeous with its beautiful straight body and shiny black paint, not to mention the white power convertible top. There's no mistaking the one-year-only 1968 SS427 hood, with its stepped shape and rear insert. There are also the special fender gills, another feature unique to this year and option. There is also the distinct grille (with black vertical bars) and SS427 badging. This example also has hideaway headlights which work great and give a sleek look. This car's original engine did not survive through the years. However, in its place sits a Chevrolet ZZ502 crate motor with aluminum heads and a factory 502hp rating. Nice! While not cheap, this big block weighs less and produces more power than anything from 1968. You can imagine the result. The transmission is TH400 automatic with column shift, and of course the rear end is a 12-bolt with Positraction. The car also has power steering and power brakes, which are must-haves on a car of this size. The interior was completely redone in white and black which really looks sharp. It has a front bench seat (standard on the SS427) while the door panels received SS trim. The dash houses the U-14 Special Instrumentation Package which includes a 7k tachometer. There is also the N-34 woodgrain steering wheel on a tilt column. The sound system uses a retro-look digital stereo with aux cord along with a vintage 8-track tape player. The horn, wipers, dash lights, courtesy lights, and heater / defroster all work properly. And not to be missed is the very rare Vigilite lamp monitoring system. The 1968 SS427 is one of the most desirable of Impalas (even if the word "Impala" doesn't appear on the car). Make it a convertible and you've really got something special. This one is not only in beautiful overall condition with many great features, but is also faster than any full-size car ought to be.
