If you are a regular follower of our website, you may recall we featured this car earlier this year in our barn finds & projects section of our website. We decided that since the body & undercarriage were so solid & the engine & transmission were already rebuilt by the previous owner, we would go ahead & spend the time & effort it takes to refurbish the car to a nice #3 driver quality condition.
We removed the chrome & stainless, stripped the paint & applied new base / coat clear coat black paint, sent out both bumpers to be re-plated, reupholstered both driver & passenger seats, door panels, re-padded the dashboard, new carpet, & replaced the old worn out steering wheel with a NOS Chrysler steering wheel. In addition we put a brand new set of 4 Coker Classic Wide White Wall tires, all new trunk liner, & some other misc. items I can't remember. The engine bay still needs to be detailed. Mechanically we did a brake overhaul, complete exhaust replacement, & reinstalled the engine & transmission that was previously taken out of the car by the last owner.
The Newport was the top of the line New Yorker series for 1950. If my memory is correct, I believe this was the 1st year that Chrysler offered a 2-Dr. Hardtop in their line up. We feel that we priced the car very realistically when you take into consideration all the refurbishments that were just completed.
