Vehicles that are in this phenomenal restored condition are very difficult to find and when you do find them you usually have to play blood money to get it. We are pleased to offer to the public for only the second time in its life this gorgeous and highly rotisserie restored '71 BMW 2002. The car is an amazing example of what can be done if you have enough time, energy, knowledge and money to put into a car and bring it back to better than original condition. This vehicle was the recent winner for Best in Show at the Gilmore Museum. The 2002 has a steep history in the BMW circles and within the factory. Setting the stage to stay in business this model insured that BMW would stay financially fit and able to continue to finance the innovation that the company has produced today.
This meticulously restored 2002 is very hard to describe, as it is just about perfect in every way. The paint job took over 6 months to complete as each stage of the process was overseen by an entire body shop and became their show piece. Sanding and painting to insure there was no filler used or any imperfections in the paint. The car was put onto a rotisserie and every inch of the car was prepped properly and inspected. The color is not only eye catching but has a glass finish. All trim work was taken off and fully restored by hand with over 100hrs spent on correcting any blemish or flaw. New chrome bumpers were purchased and mounted properly. Glass is in perfect condition and all windows function properly and the extremely rare sunroof cranks open with ease and has a nice tight seal with no air or water leaks. All new rubber moldings were replaced in the door seals and windows. Inside you would think the car just rolled out of the factory in Stuttgart as the entire carpet was replaced with authentic BMW wool carpet and the seats were restored to the factory specs with the proper horse hair stuffing. Seats also have the rare dual headrest mounts that were a pricy upgrade in the day. Once behind the wheel, you will appreciate the period correct setup with no modifications to the dash or extra gauges or switches. The gauges all function properly and lights work as well as blinkers, horn, heater fan, and even the cigarette lighter. With a simple turn of the key and push of the choke the fuel injected engine comes to life. The car performs like it looks - perfection. It runs thru all 4 gears with ease and reverse engages with zero issues. Steering, suspension and braking are a joy to experience as all the sorting out has been done.
We cannot express enough how wonderful this car is to look at it and drive. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer car in this mechanical, cosmetic and collector grade status for the price offered here. Vehicle comes with some shop manuals, few extra parts and a set of hubcaps if you chose to go back to the factory 13in wheels from the upgrade 14in wheels with the BMW crest. The values of the "roundies" are only going up from here and the availability of cars like this is slim to none. This is a very smart buy for anyone that appreciates quality and wants a sound investment.
