The 1957 DeSoto Adventurer series was the platform for their high-powered performance line. The Adventurer hardtop coupe was introduced two months after the regular DeSoto premiers; the Adventurer convertible would be seen even later. These were both exclusive with only 1,650 hardtops (like this car) and 300 convertibles.
Both versions came with special gold-colored trim elements that followed the lead of 1956. This example is beautifully complemented with white paint and attractive tri-tone interior. The Adventurer came off the line with a Hemi V-8 engine with dual four-barrel carbs and all had a pushbutton TorqueFlite automatic transmission, power brakes, dual exhaust, dual rear-mounted radio antennas, dual sideview mirrors, whitewall tires (radials on this car), padded dashboard and special paint and trim as standard features. Distinctive nameplates, badging and trim features accompanied each of these special cars. Additionally there is a 60/40 split front seat, clock, AM radio, windshield washer; power windows, seat and steering. This car is an original factory air example that is in need of its compressor and further miscellaneous components, but is an option that made this car all the more limited. The car is very nicely presented and the interior is stated as “exceptionally nice.” The wheel covers are correct and in keeping with the special overall presentation offered by only the Adventurer.
