The longest consecutively running truck brand belongs to Chevrolet Suburban. Introduced in 1935, the Suburban has served many purposes around the globe, from family hauler to work crew transportation to equipment tote to limousine, the Suburban has done just about everything a vehicle can do. This 1949 Suburban 3100 is of the Advance Design series of trucks by Chevrolet, the third generation of Suburban, but little resonates from its original days. Fit with a Chevrolet C-10 chassis and suspension cradling a Chevrolet Vortec 305 CI V-8 engine with dual exhausts feeding through chrome tips, power is delivered through a 4L60E automatic transmission. The modern combination makes for a sweet balance of performance, reliability and easy maintenance wrapped in a sweet classic package. Presented in stunningly deep Maserati Blu Nettuno paint with exceptionally clean but carefully used chrome elements including three custom blue-dot tail lights with thin chrome surrounds, the one-off build was completed in 2014 and is an elegant and fresh interpretation of what can be done with a classic Suburban. The single-piece rear door provides ample access to the cavernous cargo area which boasts carpeted walls and a finished wooden floor. Up front, the Suburban is complete with competition seats, Beede gauges and a custom wood steering wheel connected to a tilt steering column. Vintage Air keeps things comfortable and a Painless wiring kit provides a degree of fresh electrical reliability. Classic and period Chevrolet hubcaps top chrome wheels wrapped with wide whitewall tires, lending another element to the mild and modern detailing of this stylish rig. Favored by collectors and enthusiasts everywhere, the 1947-55 Advance Design series Suburbans have long proven exceptional investments and very enjoyable on many levels. Having one that’s been modernized in such a stunning color would be a treat for any truck aficionado.
