The year is 1988. We are in full 80's swing. Punk rock, hair bands,
and luxury to the max. Top of the world Ma. If you were a Mercedes
person and wanted a sporty convertible to take to the country club
and "be seen" where ever you went, then you went for the top of the
line. You went for the 560 SL. This car had an air bag, leather
interior, and a new rear suspension and limited slip differential
to handle the torque of the motor. It also had a price tag of about
$48,000 depending on what state you lived in. This in a time where
the average income in the U.S. was about $19,300. This was a high
end car for the day and it still has plenty of panache to this day.

beautiful 1988 Mercedes Benz 560 SL. This is a 2 owner car with
both tops, and beautiful paint. This fit and finish is still in
awesome shape for a 28 year old car. The soft top was replaced by
people that used to work for Mercedes using the same material used
on the line and it looks beautiful.
This is still one of those cars that you feel a little wealthier
when you get in it. The 5.5 Liter engine under the hood has 227 HP
which doesn't seem like much in today's standards, but back then,
that was some good horsepower in a car like this. It also had 279
lb ft of torque so you still got that put your butt in the seat
feel if you put your foot in it to get around all of the slow cars
on the highway. This car has only had around 7000 miles a year put
on it. With an average of 15000 miles a year being put on a car
today, this car should have over 400,000 miles on it. As you will
hear in the video, this car purrs like a kitten.
So what do you say that you glide around to the driver side door
and let yourself in to some luxury shall you. As you will see in
the pics, there are seat covers on this car, because there is some
patina in the seats that could get repaired for a very reasonable
cost. That being said, for being 28 years old, this interior is in
beautiful shape. The wood is in great shape. The radio has been
upgraded to an AM/FM/CD player so you can listen to all of your
favorite tunes in style. As it was said in the 80's, "anything less
would be, uncivilized." This car exemplifies that statement.
