1966 Chevrolet C10 Fleetside Custom Long-bed
The top of the line bow-tie truck from 1966. We have known this truck since it was bought new in 1966. This is a 100% California Truck currently located on our winery in Clearlake, California.
We are the 3rd owners of the truck and need to part with it as our parking space is limited. First owners of the truck ordered the highest end custom trim package with the extra spring in the rear for hauling a camper. While the camper shell is long gone, the truck is going strong.
This is a custom trim-line with all the chrome, the driver-side armrest, the cigarette lighter (yes, it works! we charge our cell phone on it). It is a fleetside, long-bed. We have no problem putting a 4’x 8’ sheet of plywood in the bed. This truck is original with the exceptions noted. 3-speed transmission, column shifted (3-on-the-tree).
The second owner of the truck removed the camper shell, installed the current tailgate, installed the fog-lights (not functioning at the moment), did a re-spray in gold from the original red, installed the gun-rack/cup-holder, installed new rims, and installed the tool-box. This was done in the late 1970s – early 1980s. We purchased the truck in 2004.
We have full maintenance records since 2004. Significant work has been done to improve the reliability and safety of the truck:
July 2005 – Front Disk Brake Conversion, installation of electronic trailer brake, turning and maintenance of rear drum brakes. We have towed boats and a 2-horse bumper-pull trailer with no problems. Hitch has been welded to the frame.
November 2005 – Front suspension improvements including new tie rod assembly and upper control arms.
July 2006 – New GM Crate 350 motor installed, new gear box, carburetor rebuilt, new distributor (still uses points), new fuel tank and sending unit (behind seat), radiator rebuilt. Odometer at the time of the engine replacement was 80,304.
September 2006 – New wiper motor and windscreen wipers.
October 2013 – New windscreen and front window gaskets.
September 2014 – Heater core replaced.
July 2015 – 4 new tires.
Regularly maintained by professional mechanic specializing in vintage vehicles in San Rafael, California. This mechanic did all service since we acquired the truck in 2004. Our priority for the truck was safety and all significant repairs have been focused on reliability and safety. All gauges, lights, and signals work.
Current odometer reading is 4,451. Insurance company lists mileage at 104,451. Approximately 25,000 miles since engine replacement. This is a 5-dial odometer.
The truck drives exceptionally well. The “bones” are just super. Current maintenance needs include adjusting the distributor points and relaxing a tight manual-choke cable. The original radio works but the speaker needs replacement. The original glove box could be replaced but it still works (it’s cardboard after all!).
There is some minor body panel damage and the original wood-bed has some holes and water damage (it’s 50 years old – sheesh). The paint is chipping in places but isn’t down to bare metal in only one place. As a California car, there is almost no rust on any of the original body panels. This truck was delivered with extra-fuel tanks. We have disconnected the saddle-tanks but have left the original hardware installed including the manual switch in the cab and the fuel-sending-unit electronics. These have all been disconnected.

We have a clear title. Our truck even has real “black” California plates, not the new-fangled ones.
