You do not have to be a Hot Rodder to appreciate the beauty and style of the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowlers but if you are a car guy or gal you will certainly see the appeal that these Modern Hot Rods have that make them truly stand out everywhere they go. This is without a doubt a true modern collectible and will make a great investment for the collector, or one of the most fun investments for a car aficionado that just has to have it and wants to drive it and enjoy it. This particular car stands out in many ways and is a one owner car purchased new in Eau Claire, Wisconsin by a gentleman who built a very successful business over the years who had an extensive car collection. He loved his toys and over the years simply had accumulated too many of them so it was time to thin the herd. I scooped this Deep Candy Red Pearl '02 up as soon as I found out it was on the market. I have owned several Prowlers over the years but this final production year color always caught my eye and is very rare. On top of the rarity, this stunning Prowler has just 4900 pampered miles. With so many cars in his collection he simply could not drive them all so most of the newer cars he had were extremely low mileage. He was good friends with the owner of the Chrysler dealership and made sure the cars were always maintained properly when needed with regular oil changes regardless of how few miles he put on them. Lets not forget the awesome performance upgrade that was made to this Prowler a month after he purchased it. As many of you know the biggest complaint was that Plymouth/Chrysler did not stuff a high horsepower motor under the hood of this light weight Hot Rod. Well, nothing a Novi 1000 Paxton Super Charger can't easily rectify adding over 100 hp to the stock 3.5L 24 valve DOHC Aluminum V6. At the same time, the performance shop talked him in to installing a Nitrous Oxide kit that was never used!! The bottles were never filled and this car has never run on Nitrous, but it sure looks pretty when you pop the trunk and if you are a speed junky and really want to unleash the beast it sure appears to be all plumbed up and ready to go. As you will see in the pictures that follow this Prowler is truly in near flawless condition inside and out and the next lucky owner is going to be thrilled when it arrives!
The body on this final year Prowler is in amazing condition. In this final year several new colors were introduced with only 274 of them being produced in this color for the US market. This Deep Candy Red Pearl truly sparkles in the sunlight which made it difficult to photograph because of the way the sun danced all over the curvy body lines. If you see any white spots in the pics of the body below they are merely examples of how the sun glistens on this gorgeous color. Of course this Prowler has never been in any accidents and there has never been any paintwork done other than the factory original. The body is truly near flawless with the only minor flaws I noted being an extremely tiny rock chip on the hood and a few very small scuffs under the front nose which you cannot see unless you lay on your back and slide your head under the front nose. I did not notice any door dings or other flaws but to be safe lets assume there might be another tiny rock chip or two I may have missed. Otherwise the body is showroom new and this will be a show winner if you enjoy showing your cars. As you can see it retains the stock front and rear bumpers which many times have been removed. There is no denying the rake and stance of this modern Hot Rod will turn heads and get you noticed no matter where you go.
I hope the next lucky owner will enjoy this Prowler with the top down as much as possible but this Hot Rod also looks pretty darn sweet the top up as well. The tops is a heavy duty canvas material and is a breeze to put up and down. The top is in like new condition and the glass rear window does have the rear defroster.
Slide inside this beauty and you are welcomed by extremely comfortable leather bucket seats that are like new with virtually no sign of wear at all. Leather wrapped steering wheel with a retro look tachometer mounted on the steering column. You will also see an additional boost gauge mounted on the steering column for the super charger. Gauges are neatly laid out in the center of the dash and a great sounding Stereo system with 6 disc cd changer located behind the passenger seat. Center console features the automatic shifter with sport mode allowing you to run through the gears and take the RPM's up a bit between shifts if desired. Of course Power windows, power locks, and ice cold air conditioning. Nice set of matching Prowler embroidered floor mats. Overall the interior is like new and has the simplicity of a retro Hot Rod Roadster with the modern comforts you would expect. Super comfortable and ready for a sunny day cruise or a nice long trip if desired.
The stock power plant of the Prowler is the 3.5 Liter High Output SOHC 24 valve aluminum V-6. While not the fastest roadster on the road back then with 253hp and 255 ft. lb of torque it was still enough to get most peoples attention. But lets face it with the look of a Hot Rod many people were begging for more horsepower. Well, this Deep Candy Red was treated to a Novi 1000 Paxton Supercharger 1 month after it was purchased that bumped the horsepower up and additional 100 hp to over 350 horsepower. If you have never driven a Prowler I can tell you from experience that this is a fantastic addition and really adds to the fun factor of this sweet car. As you turn the key you can hear the subtle whine from the supercharger. Hit the accelerator and a smile will erupt on your face from ear to ear. Keep in mind this Prowler has just 4900 miles and therefore has just basically been broken in. At the same time the Super charger was installed the shop who did the upgrade convinced the owner to add a Nitrous Oxide system. The Nitrous bottles were never filled and he never used the system. To me it is more for show but could certainly be a blast to run it if you have the inclination to fill the bottles and hit the button that was installed under the dash. Everything appears to be professionally installed but you may want to have someone go through the system before filling the bottles if you plan on using it. Otherwise, just pop the trunk at the local shows and cruise-ins and watch peoples mouths drop as they see the 3-bottle set up neatly laid out. Just to emphasize, this car has not been driven hard or abused whatsoever. In fact it was rarely driven and is begging to be driven and enjoyed. Although all the Prowlers are automatics, you can put the shifter in Auto-Stick mode and shift up and down through the gears for some added fun. Power rack and pinion and vented 4-wheel disc brakes make driving this baby easy. Independent front and rear stabilizer bars and front/rear coil over shocks make handling a dream and this car handles like it is on rails. Lets not forget the awesome stance thanks to the stock 20" wheels in back and 17's up front. This Prowler has the upgraded chrome wheels that are in perfect condition with no chrome flaking that occurred on some. Tires have tons of tread life left.
