This classic 5 liter, dohc , fuel -injected V8 Porsche is Black with Burgundy leather interior. It is 95+ and has the original paint and interior. No dents or dings. All windows, wipers, pop-up lights, mirrors, sunroof, etc. are working correctly.
The 928 was originally designed by Porsche to replace the 911 when they were uncertain the air cooled 911 engine could meet pollution requirements and maintain required levels of power. It was produced in several series in low numbers from 1979 through 1996. The engine was changed from 4.7 liters, sohc to 5 liters, dohc in 1985.
This vehicle has 24,780 original miles. It has had three owners. It was purchased in Fort Worth in 1985, driven for a year, and then moved with the owner to Memphis when he re-located. He placed it in storage in his business warehouse in 1986 after servicing the car and removing the fuel, where it remained until 1996. At that time it was serviced, registered and driven occasionally in the Memphis area. It was last registered by the original owner in 2003. Shortly thereafter, it went back into storage and remained there until it was sold in mid-2015 to the second owner. He had it flatbedded to a Porsche shop in suburban Memphis and serviced. The tires and seals on the door windows and hatch had dry rotted, so they were replaced. The hood and hatch struts were replaced. It was then registered and inspected in Tennessee. He sold the Porsche at auction in March, 2016 and I had it transported to Raleigh, NC. Since then, I have mostly completed the cosmetic restoration of the car, replaced the hood and hatch sound blankets, replaced the fuel gauge sending unit in the gas tank (new Porsche part), serviced and recharged the AC, replaced the stereo, inserted a new owners manual, etc. The car has the original Vredestein spare (uninflated) and tool kit. I replaced the old spare air pump with a newer one, and the old jack was missing so I have included a more useful scissor jack. It was just detailed and the paint was ceramic coated. It looks like a new paint job. The car is otherwise correctly Porsche throughout.
The car’s dash is crack-free, and the seats and carpets are without bald spots, rips or tears. The original Blaupunkt Monterey stereo cassette unit was dead purchased (but included in purchase) and has been replaced with a Blaupunkt CR-2001 unit that is completely functional (bring your cassettes for a demo). The optional dealer- installed, Blaupunkt BRQ-65 equalizer is in place and powers up but has not been connected to the current Blaupunkt stereo. It has an automatic transmission that shifts perfectly.
Basically, this is a 31 year old Porsche that was warehoused and stored correctly for 22 years. The interior looks like those seen in a 2-3 year old automobile. Tires have less than 500 miles wear. The car runs great. Names of the first and second owners are available to the buyer after completion of the sale. Limited service records are available. In 1985, this was one of the 2-3 fastest street vehicles sold in the US, capable of 160 mph. This is a unique chance to own a classic vehicle that has mostly been in a time warp for 31 years.
Serious offers only. No sales assistance is needed, thanks.
