This 1947 Plymouth Special Deluxe is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. The special deluxe was the top of the line full size sedan offered by Plymouth and the first cars to be produced post war. It was a very crazy time in the auto industry as new cars were scarce with people putting down cash deposits just to go on a waiting list. Many of these customers were on multiple lists across town making that $1200 car become 15 to 1600 very quick. You have to remember though these were the first new cars to be made in over 5 years and for many it was a way to feel normal again. This 47 is a great example of why people wanted to pay that kind of money and couldnâ??t wait to get their hands on them. Having gone through a frame off restoration and the same owner since 1969 it is a testament to how things were made back then. The body is as straight as they come with the panels fitting probably better than when it left the factory. Painted in what appears to be cruiser maroon the color is very classic post war Americana and shows very nicely. All of the bridgework on the car is in excellent condition with no signs of pitting or wear it definitely draws you in. The period correct Wide White Walls with the color matched steel wheels put the exclamation point on the exterior of this beauty. Under the hood is the monster 218 CID flathead inline 6 putting out a whopping 95 HP. You have to remember in 47 almost 100 ponies was a powerhouse. The 3 on the tree transmission is guaranteed to make you feel like youâ??re in a different time. The column shift lever sits behind the huge steering wheel that is guaranteed to get you a ton of compliments. The bench seat up front is covered in a comfortable cloth and is in excellent condition. The wood trim including the dash looks excellent and gives the interior a very upper-class feel. The in between market of the post war and the fabulous 50â??s has been overlooked for the most part but seems to have become very popular in the last couple years ensuring that this beauty at this price will not last long.
