Here's a nice example of a K5 Blazer. These are really neat full size SUVs, with a classic GM look and unique half-cab design with removable top. This 1982 model has a lot going for it; a solid southern body, military diesel engine, Rough Country lift, new paint, working a/c, and much more. I think it's a lot of SUV for the money.
This Blazer was most recently in North Carolina and is very solid. The frame, body mounts, and floors are all in exceptional condition. The body was recently repainted and also received new side moldings and grille paint. It has been lifted with a kit from Rough Country and equipped with 37" Goodyear Wrangler Military OZ tires. Note the dual tow hooks in front too. There are also many new parts throughout; ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.
The motor was originally a C-code 6.2L Detroit Diesel, but has since been upgraded to a J-code military version. The motor runs great and has a neat sound that people aren't usually expecting from a Blazer. The transmission is the factory 700R4 automatic with overdrive mated to the NP-208 transfer case. Everything shifts fine with good 4WD operation. Note there are dual batteries as well.
The interior is essentially stock. The seat covers are in nice condition. There is black carpeting under the seats and a Cargo King rubber mat in the rear storage area. All gauges work properly as do the horn, wipers, parking brake, and power rear window. The factory AM/FM/cassette stereo still sounds good too. The HVAC all works, with the air conditioning having been converted to R134a.
This Blazer is as fun as it looks. It sits nice and high with a good view of your surroundings. The Detroit Diesel has a great sound with reasonable fuel economy. You can take the top off and have some great open air adventures. And it's part of a vintage SUV segment that continues to become more collectible. Just think, all this for less than the price of a used Kia Sorento.
