Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a bad to the bone 1979 Chevrolet Corvette. The latter half of the C3 generation of Corvettes suffered from emissions regulations which kept horsepower down. They're often considered entry level collector cars as they're rather plentiful and have a lower entry level price. These same qualities make these cars excellent platforms for a custom performance build. This '79 model has been modified and improved from top to bottom. The lethargic 350 CID V8 has been removed to make room for a built Chevrolet Big Block. It is a 454 CID V8 with 502 heads and valve train. Backing the 454 is a 700R4 transmission with a 2,000 stall converter. Of course a big block will make a lot more power, but safety items such as suspension and braking have been increased as well. The car rides on coil overs in the front with all new bushings. The rear is Shark Bite suspension which gives a tight handling sporty feel like this Vette deserves. The disc brakes in all corners were supplied by Wilwood to bring everything to a halt. It is currently set up with manual rack and pinion steering for a sporty feel. Interior safety items include roll cage, racing seats, and 4 point harnesses. The car's appearance has been altered with an aggressive stance, a sweet set of wheels, and custom fender flares. Perhaps the first thing you'll notice is the absence of flip up headlights. This one has been swapped out for LeMans style fixed lights. Overall the Corvette has a look unlike any others out there. This is a nicely built performance machine that will run circles around a stock 1979 Corvette.
