Studebaker's top-of-the-line pickup was the Transtar, whose main
feature was its industry-leading cargo space. The Transtar's
51.5-inch wide pickup bed was available in both 6-1/2 foot and
8-foot lengths, giving it more cargo room than any other 1958
pickup. This truck has the 8 foot box. This is a model 3E7, only
976 were produced this year with a V-8 and 2½ ton capacity. 6,504
trucks of all models were produced in 1958 by Studebaker. This is a
rare truck. Equipped with a 259 2 BBL / 170 Horsepower Motor and 4
speed floor shifted manual transmission. This is a long wheelbase
truck at 122". Finished in the original paint, Apache Red (bottom)
with Parchment White (top), with a black upholstered bench seat,
chromed bumpers and window vents and new tubeless tires. The rear
end is twin traction, it has the "T" on the center housing. This
indicates 30 degree bevel angle.
This truck is a survivor from Arizona. It runs and drives just as
it did in 1958. It does have a couple of minor rust issues, bottom
front of both doors (see pictures) and a small spot at the driver's
side front fender edge near the door. This truck is solid
otherwise. We have had the truck for about four years, in that time
it has been garage kept and pampered.
I am including a shop manual and a model report from Studebaker
International. This is 35 page report which describes the truck
line for 1958.
