Vehicle Description
1959 Chevrolet Impala Convertible For Sale - National 1st Winner,
348 Tri Power LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1959 Chevrolet
Impala Convertible The flagship of the Chevrolet passenger model
lineup took on the Impala nameplate in '58. The name came from the
African Antelope and was featured leaping over the crossed flags
logo on Chevrolet's most expensive passenger models into the
1960's. In the second model year, as was the pattern for the car
makers during the 1950's, the 1959 Chevrolet Impala was subjected
to a complete exterior redesign. Advertising stated it was "Fresh,
Fine, Fashionable!" Today, it's interesting to consider how
extremely different the Chevrolet design was as it evolved from 56
to 57 to 58 to this magnificent 1959 model. The Impala became a
separate line featuring models ranging from Sedans to Sport Coupe
and Convertible. Chevrolet's wheelbase was slightly longer than the
comparable Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac line-up. Advertised as the
"Slimline Design" using a new X-frame chassis, the roof line was
three inches lower, bodies were two inches wider and curb weight
increased slightly. Its tail fins protruded outward, rather than
upward as was the tail fin styling craze of the day. The famous
"teardrop" design taillights or better known as the Chevrolet cats
eyes' were a styling icon then and still are today. In fact, unlike
most cars, the pictures of a '59 Chevy more often than not are
taken from the rear view to capture the styling of the outward tail
fins with those wonderful taillights. Engine availability ranged
from the standard inline 6 cylinder to the base 283 V8, to options
up to the 348 cu in V8 with 315 hp. The latter were reported to
perform 0-60 mph around the 10.8 mark with top speed of 110mph. The
interior features a contoured hooded instrument panel with deep-set
gauges and included standard front/rear armrests, electric clock,
dual sliding sun visors, and crank-operated front vent windows.
This absolutely stunning 1959 Impala Convertible was built at the
St. Louis Assembly Plant and represents the top-of-the-line for
Chevrolet. Originally shipped to California, this rust-free vehicle
received a meticulous and complete rotisserie frame-off,
nut-and-bolt, no-expense-spared restoration. The results were
nothing short of magnificent and ultimately gratifying as this car
attained top honors, judged as a "National First Prize Winner" at a
AACA show in April of 2014. Properly cared for and stored ever
since, the car is fresh as it has covered a mere 8 miles since
being restored. The Code 923 Roman Red paint, as noted on the cowl
tag, has a rich wonderful depth and the finish has a wet look as it
flows to the body lines. The fitted white convertible top enhances
the side view features of the long straight chrome spear and bright
white wall tires with chrome spinner wheel discs. This Impala
features the 348 cubic inch Turbo Thrust V8 with triple two-barrel
carburetors and original Powerglide 2-Speed Automatic Transmission
with the rare option of power steering. All of the assembly plant
production markings and tags are present and are correct throughout
the engine bay and undercarriage. Every piece of chrome and
stainless on the entire car has been triple chrome plated or
polished to better than new condition with a great depth of shine.
Lift the massive trunk lid, between the dual aerials to expose the
the large detailed trunk, appearing as it did when it rolled off
the factory line. The attention to detail continues inside the
cabin which instantly conveys a sense of luxurious detail seemingly
better than showroom quality condition. The Red Vinyl Bench Seats
having cloth inserts feature an attractive red-white-grey stripe
pattern along with bright bold chrome accented side frames. The
beautiful bright and glossy red dash has deep set gauges with
stylish patterned chrome accents which match the door panels to
provide a very classic look. The previous owner has passed along a
binder containing all photos of the restoration process and a
framed letter from AACA with the winning plaque. Chevrolet
advertising claimed "Chevy's Got A Car That Leads Your Kind of
Life" and if you've been searching for a 1959 Impala Convertible
this example is arguably one of the best in the world. Additional
