For Sale: 1965 Shelby GT350 in Halton Hills, Ontario
1965 Shelby GT350 For Sale - Numbers Matching 289/306hp, T-10, Fully Documented LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1965 Shelby GT350. The 1965 Shelby came to be when Ford wanted to up its performance reputation, specifically the new to market Mustang. Just as is the case with many racing derived special models of the 60’s, many of the unique changes to the car were done out of necessity. The definition of a “Sports Car” meant that it had to be a 2 seater, so the rear seat was deleted and the full size spare tire was mounted in place of rear seats. Only the engine or the suspension could be modified, not both, so the suspension on the street model GT350 was identical to that of the “R” models allowing racing engines to be developed and installed. The Shelby American prepared 289 cubic inch O.H.V. Cobra V8 engine was equipped with special high riser aluminum manifold, center pivot float four barrel carburetor, and specially designed hand built tubular ‘tuned’ exhaust system featuring straight through glass packed mufflers was rated at 306 HP. There was only one transmission available, a 4-Speed Borg-Warner T-10 Manual. Other eye catching stylistic features under the Fiberglass Hood with pin-lock hold-downs and functional air scoop are the finned Cobra aluminum valve covers and extra capacity finned and baffled aluminum oil pan. The air intake at the front is simplified by the use of an anodized grille and smaller horse on the right side than the decorative cross bars and insignia of the standard Mustang. For stopping these Shelby’s were given larger Ford Galaxie rear drum brakes with metallic-linings and Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes. In total only 562 Shelby GT350’s were produced in 1965 so very rare and very special. Simply a race car designed for the street that provides the special Shelby brand of excitement. This beautiful 1965 GT350, like all of them, is finished in its factory correct Wimbledon White exterior completed with the optional Le Mans Blue stripes. All the paint is in wonderful condition with great depth and clarity. Finishing off the overall look and providing the unmistakable steady rumble of the car are the factory style Side-exiting Exhaust just in front of the correct Blue Dot tires, mounted on optional cast-magnesium 15" Cragar wheels with chromed center caps marked with a stylized "CS". The 65 Shelby Black interior is all business with Bucket Seats having the Shelby approved competition Ray Brown seat belts, special Shelby installed center dash mounted instrument cluster with 8,000 rpm Tach and Oil Pressure as well as 15” Wood Rimmed Racing Steering Wheel. Put this Shelby on a hoist and you will quickly see the factory correct red-oxide primer with body color over spray, Koni shocks, aluminum case T-10 Transmission and on even closer inspection the numbers matching VIN on the side of the K-code 289 Hi-Po engine block can be seen. This Shelby was originally shipped to JD Ball Ford of Miami Florida according to the listing in the Shelby American World Registry on pages 63 and 150. Complete VIN verification by Shelby American Auto Club and Owner’s Manual will be passed along to the next proud owner. As well, it comes complete with a copy of the original invoice to JD Ball Ford, Shelby American Shipper Invoice and Shelby Order Form. The 1965 Shelby GT350’s were the first of their breed, purpose built, very rare, very unique and the ‘65’s are considered the most valuable and sought after model of all the Shelby Mustangs. With these characteristics combined with a numbers matching 289 motor, beautiful restoration and full documentation, this car is a terrific example for anyone looking to add the true original Shelby Mustang to their collection.
