nearly 100-year old Binder survivor into the 21st Century, a 1923
International-Harvester pickup truck. Within its 124-inch wheelbase
resides a flathead inline four-cylinder engine with splash oil
lubrication bolted to a three-speed transmission with Hi-Lo. Top
speed is rated between 25 and 30 miles per hour. Its black exterior
finish has a great patina from decades of hauling grain, people,
animals, hay, wood or other items in its wooden bed. The steel
hood, fenders and cowl show extremely well. The side and back slats
of its triple box can be removed or added at the owner's
preference. Both glass headlights are cracked from age but are
fully serviceable. The metal radiator and fuel filler caps are in
decent shape. Beneath the cowl is a 12-gallon fuel tank. The
running boards have the same patina as the rest of the truck's
metal exterior, with the International name stamped into them. The
top has been recovered in newer black vinyl. Side window glass
rolls up and down and there's a two-piece windshield but it is
cracked. In back, the black wooden slats have '1923' outlined in
white on the end closest to the cab. Mounted within Firestone
Gem-tipped tires are 10-spoke red artillery-type wooden wheels with
metal center caps. Inside, in its three-quarter enclosed wooden
cab, the two person bench seat has been newly recovered in maroon
vinyl with a single, rectangular window above it. Near the floor
shifter is the handbrake. Above the steering column are levers to
advance or retard the spark timing and to control the throttle by
hand. The floor has been recovered and the headliner is in decent
shape. Some competing examples to this International truck included
the Ford Model T with stake bed, the Chevrolet Model 490 Light
Delivery and the Dodge Brothers' pickup trucks. Stop by to listen
to the sounds of this rolling time capsule representing 1923 --
when Prohibition was in force, the first Yankee Stadium opened, the
Walt Disney Company was founded and the Hollywoodland sign went up
in the hills above Los Angeles, California. GET OUT AND RIDE!!!
