For Sale at Auction: 1930 Packard Deluxe in Owls Head, Maine

Vehicle Description

This 1930 Packard 745 Deluxe Eight Seven-Passenger Touring car, vehicle # 181490, is an amazing example of a true original Classic Packard. For more than a century, many automobile enthusiasts have long considered Packard as the epitome of elegant design and high quality engineering. Vehicle # 181490 is an historical time capsule, an original, unmolested automobile that exemplifies the Packard name while representing the efforts the previous two owners have taken to care for this wonderful vehicle.

A walk around Vehicle #181490 will reveal the original paint and color scheme in remarkable condition for its age. The 86-year-old patina is impossible to recreate and tells a wonderful story. The slight wear marks made by a drivers arm comfortably perched on the door are representative
of the relaxed feeling one feels behind the wheel of this Packard and the history behind her. The original chrome and bright work still retain their original shine and luster. On the interior, the original brown leather has aged graciously, and the seats and side panels as well reveal a car that was carefully used, enjoyed, and properly cared for throughout her 86-year history.

A two-owner vehicle, this Packard was purchased new in the State of Maine and spent the first 40 years of its life as an estate vehicle in the Sebago Lake area for the Pierce family. The data plate under the hood clearly states 'Packard Boston / Portland Branch' The current owner, a builder of high quality wooden boats and a master craftsman, purchased the vehicle in 1970 and has cared for it since. The original-to-the-car 106 hp eight-cylinder engine was professionally rebuilt within recent years and has minimal hours on it since completion. A new quality top covering was used to recover the original top bows of this elegant touring car. Currently, this vehicle is on display at the Owls Head Transportation Museum and was driven more than 50 miles to reach the destination.

In September of 1989, this vehicle was used as a parade car to transport U.S. Admiral Arleigh Burke to Bath Iron Works for the launch of the ship and new destroyer class named after him, U.S.S Arleigh Burke (DDG-51). A vehicle like this 1930 Packard Deluxe Eight Seven-Passenger Touring in preserved original condition is a rare historical automobile and ready for its next caretaker.
