Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1971 BMW Bavaria. A remarkably well-documented example with records to new and only three previous owners this has been part of the MCS private collection for the last two years. The original owner was an executive with Teledyne based in California who ordered this car for European delivery in conjunction with a business trip in 1971 (none other than Max Hoffman was the original importer); the owner lived in Brussels more permanently from 1973 to 1976 and took this car with him. He retired from California to South Carolina in the early 1980s and took the car with him again -- clearly he liked the car but he finally sold it in 1987 with 85000 miles. We acquired the car with right at 100000 miles (records and titles confirm actual mileage) -- the Bavaria was in a state of benign neglect needing paint and a mechanical freshening but fortunately the car had always been garaged and the interior was nearly perfect.Last year the car saw a glass-out repaint to a very nice standard in Taiga Green a 1971 BMW color rarely seen on a Bavaria (but slightly more common on a 2002 or a 3.0 CS). Trim is in very good original condition; bumpers have been re-chromed. Front and rear windshield seals plus the trunk seal are new; the rest of the rubber is original but has held up well. NOS Euro front turn signals; the remaining lenses are in excellent original condition. 15-inch BBS wheels with nearly new tires; the original Bavaria wheels and hubcaps are included with the sale. The interior is nearly all original with the exception of a leather-wrapped Alpina steering wheel and updated front seatbelts from a 3.0 S. Dash door panels seat upholstery carpet and headliner are all in very good original condition. The original steering wheel and seat belts are of course included. All gauges lights indicators wipers radio A/C and heater controls sunroof etc. are working as they should.Extensive mechanical work in our shop over the last two years includes a full tune up all new hoses belts filters and fluids thermostat new clutch new clutch master and slave cylinder full brake system overhaul new Weber carbs and intake new muffler new A/C components and new tires. Slightly lower and stiffer than stock with Bilstein sports Korman sport springs and Korman sways. New tie rod ends and suspension bushings. 2800 runs strong and pulls hard all the way to redline. The driving dynamics are crisp and responsive; it's faster and more substantial than a 2002 but less than half the price of an E9 coupe in comparable condition. We've put nearly 5000 miles on it including several extended tours and the car has always performed flawlessly.Complete tool kit original owner's manual service books and extensive import documents and service records accompany the sale.
