Vehicle Description
All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance.
The Ford SVT Lightning represents Ford's first real performance truck. It offered numerous improvements over the base F150. These included not only a better engine, but also a better transmission, suspension, seats, and more. And unlike other some other performance pickups, the Lightning could still be used as a truck, maintaining practical towing and payload figures. As Ford said, it was like a Mustang GT with a cargo bed.
This 1993 model represents the first year of production for the Lightning. Only 5,276 were produced that year which is well under 1% of F150 production. This example is a real Lightning with the correct "R" in the VIN. It is free of any rust issues and has a beautiful straight body. It has been repainted a gorgeous "Root Beer Brown" metallic. The paint is difficult to photograph; while it looks black in pictures, it has a deeper, more colorful appearance in person. The paint is of high quality throughout. The bed is also in excellent condition, while the 20" wheels with Bridgestone tires add to the look.
This Lightning retains its original drivetrain, and with 140k miles it still runs great. The special 351W engine remains stock with its GT40 heads and special intake manifold. The Lightning E40D 4-speed automatic transmission shifts fine too. The dual exhaust sounds fantastic and is void of catalytic converters. Also, note this truck only uses the rear fuel tank. Finally, the suspension and steering have had recent maintenance to ensure it drives like new.
The interior is also stock. The special Lightning seats with power bolsters and lumbar adjustments remain comfortable and fully functional. There is the correct 120 mph speedometer and 6k tachometer, along with the other factory gauges. The lights, horn, wipers, and stereo all work properly. So do the cruise control and air conditioning.
The SVT Lightning represents an important truck in the F150 family. This example, with its excellent paint and body, may look nicer than most. But it still offers all the performance and practicality that made this truck so exciting when it was introduced. It all makes for a cost-effective approach to have a beautiful, collectible truck you can drive and enjoy every day.
