Vehicle Description
1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe Business Coupe
The 1948 Plymouths have become quite the popular cars for
customizing in recent years as people are looking for something a
little different than your standard Ford or Chevy. With its unique
front grill and clean body lines the Plymouth is a perfect base for
a Street Rod and always stands out especially when it features the
customizations that this one has. This car is an older build on a
rust free California body but don't let that word older scare you.
The car is not dated at all and stands up in modern times
especially when you consider how popular the old school traditional
style that people are now gravitating to. It really is a first
class custom and features a lot of the best of the best components
out there. The car is ideal for short rod runs and long trips
alike. It sits on a full custom chassis by Ray Lund Street Rods and
the body is very solid. It features a hidden trailer hitch and
electronic brake connection so it is set up to pull a trailer
comfortably. The body is coated in a very light Gray lacquer paint
which pairs perfectly with all of the original style stainless and
chrome accents. It has been tubbed with a custom floor in the rear
to accommodate larger tires and the blacked out American Racing
wheels. One look at the car and you can tell it must have something
special under the hood. It sits low with a nice rake and if the
rear tires didn't clue you in the awesome sound of the dual exhaust
will. It is now powered down the road by a Mopar Performance built
high output 360 V8 motor that runs extremely well and offers plenty
of power. The car really drives down the road great and if you want
to put on a show has no problems taking off from a red light. The
motor is combined with a A500 automatic transmission with a 30%
overdrive plus lock up converter connected to a Ford 9 inch posi
rear end equipped with 4:11 gears. The suspension has been upgraded
as well with a Mustang II independent front suspension, anti sway
bars and narrowed parallel leaf springs in the back. The front and
rear frame assembly was customized for the car to work perfectly
with all the added features. Other nice upgrades include the large
disc brakes which slow the car to a stop with ease.
The interior is all custom as well and completed by Jerry Noone.
The combination of Gray upholstery and Burgundy carpeting was a
great choice and along with some other Burgundy accents on the dash
give it a great look. It has dual bucket seats up front and being a
Business Coupe does not have a rear seat. Storage space should be
of no concern though because the trunk on this classic has to be
one of the biggest that was ever created. Coolers, lawn chairs,
spare parts, luggage, and anything you could want for a car cruise
would fit easily inside with room to spare! A ratchet style shifter
is mounted to the floor and topped off with a custom skull knob. A
lot of the original trim pieces are still mounted to the dash and
it even has a Vintage Air under dash heat/AC unit.
Whether you are a Plymouth fan or not there is no denying this
street rod has a pretty cool look. First class workmanship was used
throughout and with only 10,000 miles since built this car still
has a long life ahead of it. Weekend cruiser, long distance driver,
cool custom, this car has it all!
