For Sale: 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. You just don't see many first generation Monte Carlos. And that's a shame. Cars like this 1970 model, with its LS5 454 cubic inch motor and factory air conditioning, were a splendid combination of big block power and sporty yet elegant lines. They were some of the nicest cars of their day. This beautiful example was built in Los Angeles and spent much of its life in Oklahoma. The underside is free of any rust issues, while the exterior was stripped to bare metal and given a high quality repaint in its original color of Hunter Green. The black vinyl top was replaced as were the plastic inner fenders. All brightwork was either replated or replaced. Note the chrome plated Rally wheels too. Under the hood is a 454 ci motor with the correct 3963512 block. The engine has fewer than 5,000 miles since a complete rebuild. This included a new crankshaft, new TRW pistons, reconditioned rods, and balancing. It also received a Competition Cams 270 camshaft and the cylinder heads were rebuilt. The factory intake manifold wears an Edelbrock Performer Q-Jet carburetor. There is also an MSD distributor and coil along with a mini starter. This motor really is nice; it starts right up with a flick of the key, makes plenty of power, and sounds amazing. Still it is well mannered on the street with good vacuum at idle. The engine feeds a TH400 automatic transmission with a B&M torque converter, while the rear 12-bolt axle houses an Auburn limited slip differential with 3.55 gears. There are many other new parts throughout; control arms, bushings, springs, ball joints, u-joints, brakes, shocks, and more. The result is a very nice riding car, without any slop or squeaks. The green vinyl interior is in wonderful condition. The seats, door panels, and headliner (with shoulder belts) all look terrific. The woodgrain accents are a really nice touch on the Monte Carlo, adding a bit of class. Note the horseshoe shifter and center console too. There is an aftermarket stereo with trunk mounted amplifier. The horn, wipers, heater, and lights all work. So does the air conditioning! This Monte Carlo is set up like an SS454. Correct equipment includes the LS5 motor, TH400 transmission, 1-1/8" front stabilizer bar, 12-bolt rear with stabilizer bar, shock protector plates, and SS badging. Still I am presenting it as a replica, as I cannot prove otherwise. There has been a lot of work done to this car, and the result runs and drives as good as it looks (and sounds). With its distinguished looks, excellent drivetrain, and comfortable ride it will be a classic you'll enjoy for years to come.
