The name Vanagon is derived from a combination of "Van" and "Station Wagon". The name Vanagon was used in the US and Canadian markets. Volkswagen made no significant changes to the Vanagon for 1983, so it was essentially the same vehicle that had appeared in showrooms the previous couple of years. In addition to the standard model, a Vanagon Camper version was available, outfitted by Westfalia. It came with a pop top, a rear seat that folded out into a bed, a refrigerator, stove, sink, storage cabinets, and a pantry. Finished in a brilliant Artic White, the exterior of this Vanagon shows extremely well! All the trim is present, complete and displays a brilliant finish. The front and rear black painted bumpers are tight and look great. The black front grill is also in very good condition. The original headlights and tail lights are in very good condition with no hazing or cracking. Inside, the green and grey striped cloth interior features front bucket seats. The rear bench (which folds down for more cargo room and bed) is finished in the same cloth upholstery as the front seats. The Tobacco Tan door panels and dashboard are a continuation of the interior of the van and look fantastic. The headliner compliments the cloth of the seats. The tan carpet with black floor mats are in very good condition. The weather-stripping is in excellent condition. All the original gauges are correctly placed and function as designed. The original steering wheel with the JVC AM/FM stereo with Toshiba speakers completes the interior. This fully optioned Vanagon is equipped with a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine fed by electronic fuel injection. Power is transferred to the wheels by a �5 speed Manual transmission. Driver assist features include rack & pinion steering and power assisted brakes. This camper rides on front and rear independent suspension. The 14-inch steel wheels with VW trim caps complete the look. The Westy "POPTOP" works great, with zippers, block out netting that are all in good working order. �What a great place to put the kids at night! There is no such thing as a cooler more versatile car. This Vanagon camper is ready to go and loves adventure just as much as you do!
