For Sale: 1972 Jaguar XJ in Carey, Illinois

Vehicle Description

This is a really pretty XJ6 Jaguar sedan out-fitted in Silver with grey Connolly hide interior with blue carpets. The overall combination presents very elegantly indeed. This particular Jaguar was delivered new in California where it resided for most of its life and then Florida before coming to Illinois only a few years ago. As a result, she is very "dry" without the typical ingress of heavy rust and scale. The body on this car is straight. Looking under the hood and trunk is evident of its originality. The car has been repainted at some stage (same colour) and presents well for driver quality and use. There are some minor marks, blemishes and chips here and there from normal use but overall presents shiny and clean. To make it clear, it is not of any show quality standard but presents well being consistent overall. Being a 1972 year, I do like the all Euro style chrome bumpers and over-riders. By 73, these were already changing over to the impact style. The interior of the car is in great condition with excellent Connolly hide leather upholstery finished in the light grey which is perhaps better described as a "blue grey" colour. The leather has a wonderful patina to it giving the car a very nice classic look, yet without any tears rips or holes. A perfectionist who might like the leather to look "new' could have it redyed but I think it looks best left as its is. All the wood on the dash is original and in very good condition. There are hairline cracks in the finish but these are so consistent that they look ok! Compared to the average example, without any delaminating of the lacquer, it way exceeds typical and I would rate it 8 out of 10. The door cappings are good. There is no sagging or marks in the headlining. It appears to be relatively new. The carpet is in excellent shape and is the original fitment. The rich wood in this example contrasts beautifully with the grey hides/blue carpet – making the interior of this car very rich and inviting. All interior chrome finishes are nice. Overall she looks wonderful with a nice classic patina look. Interior features and functions are operational including electrics – windows, gauges, lights etc. With exception; the fuel gauge requires the obligatory "tap-tap" and the clock is narcissistic. The A/C has a brand new compressor and blows ice cold. Everything is generally clean and crisp. All the knobs, centre switches, radio and surrounding aluminium finishers are in great shape and look quasi brochure look. Interior chrome, stainless steel and bright work finishes are all good without any pitting. The "Jaguar" grill badge is gorgeous. Mechanically, the car is good condition and the clean and original presentation under the bonnet clearly shows that. The engine runs strong and the trans changes smooth. Recent services include new brake hoses, new brake pads and brake general service. New front shock bushing were also fitted and carburetors rebuilt and engine tuned. The front-end feels tight and power steering light and smooth. Oil leaks are minimal - in fact, the car is very dry underneath - which is rare for a Jaguar! (see underside pix). Both gas tanks were recently cleaned with level sensors repaired and both fuel pumps rebuilt and new hoses fitted. The switch over from left & right tanks works as it should (rare bonus!). Exhaust is good with the correct looking exhaust tips fitted. The car is fitted with a set of period correct looking 205/70-15 whitewall tires (with some 80-90% tread). The left gas tank needs cleaning out and so the car is only operating on the right tank. Otherwise, this is a Jaguar that appears to be free of their usual nuances and typical issues of its age. The 25,000 miles is not verifiable but everything about the car certainly supports it to be a low mileage example. This is a 9 out of 10 driver example that would make for a gorgeous “weekender” - one that you could take to your next Jaguar meet with joy. There are not many
