Evolve Motors is pleased to present this fun-loving Vanagon!
This 1981 Volkswagen Vanagon is in OK condition with a number of small body blemishes both in the metal and in the paint. It appears to be all original metal, which leads us to believe that she’s free of any major wrecks or fender benders. There is a noticeable chip in the windshield, along with another crack running about 1/3rd of the way up from the bottom. The trim around the windows is weathered and worn, but is still intact with no leaking glass anywhere throughout the 8 large windows. The grill is cracked, however we have located a replacement through a company in California, and would be willing to install it for the right buyer. Both corner pieces of the front bumper appear to be missing. Take a look at the pictures, what you see is what you get with this cool old road tripping machine!
The interior has some noticeable wear and tear on both front seats. The driver seat bottom is completely worn away along the bolster, mostly from the peculiar angle of exit and entry over the wheel well. The passenger seat is a bit better, showing only medium wear and some staining throughout the bottom cushion. The good news is the 2nd row bench is in fantastic condition, and since this VW is a rear-engine vehicle, allows for ample leg room throughout the cabin, including a full walk through from front row to the rear seats. The 3rd row bench seat is tattered and torn along the seat-back, but the seat-bottom seems to be in good condition. The carpets and headliner are both in fantastic condition. Along the ceiling of this bus you’ll find a full DPD overhead air conditioning system, that does appear to blow cool air. Not ice cold, but it may just need a re-charge. Once again, take a look at the pictures, as we pull no punches with the camera. Our job is to show you the good, the bad, and the ugly of each vehicle in our inventory.
Mechanically the VW seems to be in good order. The 6 digit odometer shows us that the vehicle only has 46,918 miles, which means it still has a lot of life left in. Perfect for packing up some friends and hitting the highway, stopping to camp out wherever you wish! The clutch does have a little play in it between gears, but seems to find each gear without a problem. All of the gauges appear to be in good working order, and the radio is operable. Down below the suspension seems to be nice and tight, giving no questionable moans or groans.
Final assessment of the 81 Vanagon; It’s a neat little bus that will give you more laughs than headaches, more good times than bad. Sure, she’s not the prettiest cosmetically, but what she lacks in looks, she more than makes up for in useable recreational space. Whether you’re a family man with a die-hard love for German automobilia, or a younger hipster who has to fit the band and all the gear for a gig on the weekends, or just want to get out and enjoy the highway in a neat old VW bus, this ones for you.
