Vehicle Description
Very solid original Coupe with older cosmetic restoration. Shows only light patina from collector use suitable for an excellent touring car! Nicely appointed with wide whitewall tires, fender skirts, and throaty dual exhaust system!
Standard model cars had a modified 1937-style grille and hood, still giving the look of a streamlined front end. New to 1937 was the introduction of a revised engine block with water pumps now mounted to the block feeding coolant to the center of the heads instead of the front allowing for better cooling. By 1938, the blocks were again redesigned with new cooling passages requiring 24-studs to hold down the heads. Power output remained the same at 85 horsepower with slightly increased torque output.
This car still retains its original 81A 221ci Flathead V8 producing 85horsepower with a three speed transmission. Enhancing both the power output and a little rumble under throttle is the addition of exhaust headers and dual exit pipes with turn down tips! Adding to its great looks are the white wall tires, trim rings, dual outside mirrors, and rear fender skirts. Updated sealed beam headlamps are installed for easy replacement.
The paint has held up well with some recent freshening. A newer interior remains very nice with some light staining on the headliner & rear package tray. The window reveals and dash are wood-grained beautifully. The running boards are original with some expected rubber imperfections. The engine compartment is detailed nicely and done in the correct fashion.
A handsome example of a rare body style, this 1938 Ford Coupe will be a fine addition to any collection. In outstanding mechanical order, it would be the ideal touring car that could just as easily be shown with pride.
