The Fairlane began production by the Ford Motor Company in 1955. The car was named after Henry Ford's estate Fair Lane near Dearborn Michigan. The Fairlane was built in 7 generations the last being built in 1970 when the mid-sized model was replaced by the Torino.The 1962 Fairlane was moved into Fords new Intermediate line to bridge the gap between the compact Ford Falcon and the full-sized Ford Galaxie. The Fairlane had a Unibody frame but the body incorporated an unusual feature Ford dubbed torque boxes four boxed structures in the lower body structure designed to absorb road shock by moving slightly in the vertical plane. All 1962 Fairlanes had "B" posts despite the popularity of the pillar-less hardtop and convertible styles in that era.The car was offered in two trim levels; the Fairlane and the Fairlane 500 and in two-door or four-door sedan body styles. The 500 model had more decorative trim such as a wider chrome stripe down the side and three bullets on the rear quarter panels. As an option for 1962 Ford introduced the new lightweight Windsor V8 initially with a displacement of 221 CID (3.6 L) and 145 HP. This Sandshell Beige Fairlane 500 has the 221cid Windsor V8 engine and a 2-Speed Ford-o-matic Auto Transmission with overdrive. The motor has the factory cast intake original 2bbl carburetor with electric choke Factory radiator manifolds Y-pipe to a single exhaust. It comes equipped with Power Steering Power 4-Wheel Drum Brakes and Air Conditioning. It has a 9 inch rear end and 15 inch steel wheels with full chrome centers. The car rolls on BF Goodrich T/A Radials: P215/70R15s in the front and P235/60R15s in the rear.The Exterior of this classic is in very nice condition. The Chrome bumpers and brightwork are all original and very clean. All the original emblems are present and in good shape. The factory original Beige and Brown interior is also in wonderful condition and super clean. The dash has all stock gauges radio knobs and controls. The factory Steering column is topped with a Fairlane 500 Steering wheel. The split bench and rear bench seat have a two tone pattern as well as the interior panels. The interior handle and cranks are all in great condition and working. The Brown carpeting and headliner are very clean and in great shape.This is a very nice very clean original condition classic car. A very solid example of an American Classic.
