Classic Car Marketing, Inc. Southern California’s premier marketing company is pleased to introduce this new listing offered for sale by one of our clients. This 1968 Dodge Dart SS/AFX Re-Creation is the closest thing you will get to the real deal, and boy does she get up and dance across the floor! Let’s back up a minute to 1968 and a bit of automotive history. Chrysler went into the 1968 drag race season with the objective to win and they did that with the Hemi Barracuda’s and Dart’s. Chrysler contracted with Hurst Performance to modify 80 Dart’s for drag race use. The production line cars were delivered to Hurst and they did all the modifications to create the Super Stock cars. Hurst installed the 426 cubic inch Hemi motor with an aluminum cross ram manifold and two Holley 770 CFM carburetors and either a four speed or automatic transmission (with their shift kits), installed a unique interior package and did all the other modifications to make the cars race ready. Greg Fernald at SS/AFX built this car in 2007 as a special order for a customer, and the car made its debut at Mopars at the Strip in 2008 during the 40th Anniversary of the Chrysler Super Stock cars. Several famous race drivers signed the underside of the trunk lid making this one special automotive edition. Custom mixed orange paint with 1968 Hemi style black interior with Dodge van bucket seats and no back seat. 1968 style Fiberglass front end with plexiglass side glass and door windows with lift straps, no window cranks or arm rests. Custom period style Mopar Megablock 528 cubic inch hemi with aluminum cross ram manifold and two Holley 770 cfm carburetors. Stage V aluminum cylinder heads for better air flow. Custom ceramic coated headers. Crane solid roller cam, Ross 10:1 pistons, Manley H Beam rods, and Keith Black rocker shafts and stands. Over 670 HP using 91 octane fuel, and for a relatively light 3200 lb. car, the acceleration is astounding! Torque Flite 727 three speed transmission with 10 inch A-1 Torque Converter with 3000 RPM stall. Period style transmission set up with reverse manual valve body must be manually shifted up and down the gears. Floor mounted Hurst Promatic ratchet style shifter. Dana 60 rear axle with Trac Loc, 4.10 gears and Strange Axles to handle the significant torque the motor puts out. Wilwood disc brakes in front and 10 inch drum brakes in the rear. Cragar S/S 60’s style rims. Hurst performance radiused the wheel well openings on the Darts to allow for the larger race tires. This car has that same modification and uses 10.5” x 31” Mickey Thompson ET Street “Slicks”. Strange adjustable shock absorbers at all four wheels. Correct Super Stock rear springs as used in 1968. With approximately 1400 miles since she hit the road in 2008, she has never been on a race track….which is great for you if you are lucky enough to be her new owner.
