The Quicksilver is not a replica or kit car. It is best
described as a factory built semi-custom.
In the tradition of the early custom coach builders, the Zimmer
Motor Company took a new 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE chassis stretched it
two feet
and added custom designed by GM stylists. The car is quite rare
with a with a total production of only 170 units..
The car features a mid- engine fuel injected v-6 engine.
Performance was good by 1986 standards with 0 to 60 time of 8.2
seconds and a top speed of 121 miles per hour. Fuel economy was
firmly in the mid 20 's
At more than $50,000, the Quicksilver had a steep price which
contributed to the low number of units built. However, the low
production numbers allowed many luxury touches such as burled
walnut dash and console, black sued lined interior roof, two tone
leather interior, all of which exemplified the high end of the
barque style American luxury car.
Notable Quicksilver owners were Sinatra, Sly Stallone and Hulk
Hogan
