? Records dating back to 1965
? Service records from the subsequent years
Paint and Chrome
The Evening Orchid finish—a repaint in the original color for the car—is in excellent condition and has the distinction of being a one-year-only color for Chevrolet. The paint gleams in a way that the original finish never did.
The chrome was all redone or replaced.
The body and underside of the car appears to be free of rust and it is clear from the condition of the underside that this car has travelled few miles since it was the subject of its restoration (see pictures).
Interior
The seat upholstery was all redone as original in black vinyl (1966 pattern) that makes an excellent contrast with the exterior. The door panels are in excellent condition. The new carpet is a matching black. The off-white headliner is in very good condition.
Engine
The car’s 6 cylinder engine sits nestled in a clean engine bay. This Corsa was equipped from new with Corvair’s Turbo engine which produced 180 hp.
Transmission
The 4-speed manual transmission shifts properly, executing upshifts and downshifts as it were new.
Tires, Brakes, Safety and Monitoring Systems
This Turbo has real wire wheels mounted with BF Goodrich T/A 195/70R14 tires. The footprint of the tires help harness the engine’s torque and deliver it to the rear wheels.
The brakes bring the car to a straight and quick stop without pulling or shuddering. All of the gauges (speedometer, tach, turbo boost, temp, gas) work properly, as do the safety equipment (lights, turn signals, horn, wipers). The car has retractable seatbelts in front, regular belts in the rear; and along with the AM radio, a new AM/FM/Cassette stereo radio has been installed as well. The clock works—periodically—but shows a preference for 1965.
An Excellent Example of one of the Very Hard-to-find Corsa Turbo Coupes
This Chevy Corvair Turbo coupe is fully restored and looks great. The Evening Orchid paint is a standout both in quality and rarity. The strength and performance of the turbocharged engine reminds us why these cars were referred to as “the poor man’s Porsche.” These Corsa turbo coupes are highly regarded and therefore represent not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. And if there was ever a car that transports you back to the ‘60s, this is it. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up.”
