This is an original 1949 Cadillac Series 61 sedan. It is in very good original condition. This car has been in my family for 36 years and has always been kept inside. My grandfather purchased this car in 1980 with roughly 14,000 miles on it. It now has 26,652. The V8 is running strong and drives well. The car is in original stock condition. The only things that I know of that have been replaced are the exhaust, brake master cylinder, and starter solenoid. Everything else, to my knowledge, is original, or was rebuilt on a as needed basis. The entire interior upholstery is original and in very good condition for its age.
There is some wear on the cord around some of the doors and there is one spot in the carpet that is worn through on the rear passenger seat. There is also a worn spot in that seat. The ivory steering wheel and shifter has cracked with age. There is very little rust on the body. The paint is original with some of the higher points on the fins wearing through now. The tips of the chrome bumper on both sides of the rear are exhibiting some rust. The chrome is in very good condition with the exception of those rust spots and some fading on the top front bumper. Please see pictures, I have tried to include pictures of most all of the imperfections. All lights are working. The radio light turns on and knobs work, however it does not play. All gauges are working with the exception of the clock.
I have all the paperwork from this car while it has been in my family including all maintenance records. Also included are photocopies of the following: body service manual, Valve-in-head engine preliminary service manual, Maintenance manual, The Cadillac serviceman, and the Cadillac 1949 owner’s manual. Originals of the following are included: ‘On finding all the treasure of Cadillac ownership’ booklet, 1949 Dealers booklet, 1949 Cadillac shop manual. Also included are many original and some aftermarket parts, as well as 5 stock Cadillac sombrero hubcaps (in addition to the four on the car), two spare tires, and a jack set (I’m not sure if the jack is original or not). There was an article written about this car by my grandfather in Cadillac La Salles Clubs April 1983 issue. I also have the original Cadillac Identification card from 10/25/49 and a clear title in hand.
