Built for design chief Virgil Exner, of Chrysler and artist Dale Sizer enlisted customizer Lance Soliday to build a one-of-a-kind 1961 Dodge Pioneer. A low mileage donor car was media blasted down to bare metal, shaved and decked. All stainless and chrome was removed, polished or plated. The front half of the Dodge was replaced with that of a '62 Chrysler with its radically canted headlights and grille. The Chrysler also donated its engine and transmission. A star medallion off a '61 Dodge Polara serves as grille centerpiece. No Chrysler ever boasted the sleek roofline and sculpted fins of this Dodge, but they work together beautifully. The rare, transparent-with-metal flake, square Aero steering wheel is off a '61 Plymouth. The XnerVana also features innovative Chrysler Corp. swiveling bucket seats upholstered in a custom design of pearl white and metallic gold vinyl. Black carpeting glitters with woven-in gold metal-flake accents. Door handles were shaved and remote keyless entry installed. The Chrysler Newport 361 V8 was rebuilt along with the power steering box and speedometer. The engine compartment is clean and detailed. The car is lowered with rear airbags and torsion bar suspension up front. Front disc brakes are paired with drums in the rear. Tires are wide-whitewall radials for superior handling. Wheel covers are rare 14" period-correct aftermarket. The car runs and handles beautifully with approximately 5000 miles on the clock since it was built in 2004.
