Vehicle Description
1980 Toyota FJ40
Created as a two door SUV to compete with Jeep, the Toyota FJ40 has
proved to be one of those special classics that have a loyal
following. They were first created in 1960 and had a long life
extending into the 2000s with the FJ Cruiser. Of the years the most
popular tend to be late 70s and early 80s FJs because they combined
all the features everyone loved. For instance, like in this car,
they created ambulance style doors in the rear eliminating the need
to swing out the rear wheel just to get access to the interior.
Small features like that along with some performance upgrades make
these the ones to have. The 1980 FJ40 you see here is a nice
looking classic that drives very well. It underwent a body on
restoration and looks really nice rolling down the road. It is done
in the Blue and White two tone that always tends to be a popular
color combo. All of the trim is in good condition and all in place.
With 11 windows these cars had tons of glass all of which is in
good shape on this car except for a rock chip on the front
windshield. The only obvious aftermarket component on this car
other than the Rancho shocks is the wheels which are now polished
out and wrapped with all terrain BFGoodrich tires.
Another feature people like about this year include the larger 2-F
6 cylinder motor found under the hood. The engine has been gone
through on this FJ and it starts up smoothly. It is very reliable
and we cannot stress how nicely this thing really drives. The motor
is paired with a 4 speed transmission that shifts well. This year
also featured the front disc brakes and 3:60 gear ratio which is
preferred.
The interior of the car is Black with matching Blue paint. It
features the original style dual bucket seats up front with the
inner facing buckets in back. All of the instrumentation on the
dash is working properly and has the original look. The odometer
shows 49,380 and it even still has the gear shifting information on
the glove box. Under the dash is the box style AC/Heat system which
is working properly.
This is a really cool classic that will bring you tons of
enjoyment. They aren't making anymore so they are just getting more
rare as time goes on!
