1969 Chevrolet Corvair
Corvairs are very unique classics that certainly have their own place in automotive history. Only 8 short months after their introduction on September 26, 1968 the 1969 model of Corvair was discontinued leaving roughly 1300 cars left unsold. Nowadays these Corvairs have become quite desirable and there are those diehard fans out there that refuse to be seen in anything else. The 69 Monza you see here is a nicely built classic with a fully documented history. It was built in the third week of November 1968 and the car started its life out in Michigan with the first owner before gradually making its way to Texas. At one point the car was driven from Gainesville, GA to TX and took on the 900 mile drive with no problems. The body is in good shape and coated in a Frost Green (GM code 59) that really grabs peoples attention. The chrome and stainless work is all in good shape with the standard luggage rack mounted in the rear. Changing up the stock look are the Camaro IROC-Z wheels which look perfect on the car. They have been polished out with the insets painted green to match the body. New tires were just added.
Powering the car is the 110hp 6 cylinder corvair motor mounted in the rear. It runs well and carburetors were recently rebuilt. The previous owner had replaced the carbs, harmonic balancer and added an electric fuel pump. The engine compartment has a clean look with painted to match air cleaners. Paired with the motor is an automatic 2 speed powerglide transmission that moves through the gears smoothly. You tend to see a lot more manual Corvairs out there so for those of you not comfortable with shifting this is the car for you.
The interior is all original except for the carpet and rear package tray. It is done in Green and the upholstery work is all in good condition. The original Chevrolet AM/FM player is in place on the dash and works. The original center console is in place between the bucket seats and houses cupholders and the front speakers. Being a rear engine car the trunk space is found under the hood and offers a ton of storage space.
Being the last year for Corvair makes the 1969 a little more desirable and a car collection just wouldn't be complete without one.
