Although many of the American buyers had found that the wagon did not have enough power, the European market loved the utilitarian use and overall good gas mileage especially when including the manual transmission. The manual transmission was not something easily found for the ones sold to the US and with only the 4-cylinder as an option that came with the manual, they were primarily automatics with the bigger engine when chosen by the perspective buyers. In Europe, however, the combination of the 3.0L diesel and the 4-speed manual transmission was much more common and available to them and with the option of a factory hitch with towing capability, this really became a utilitarian wagon with a bullet-proof power plant.
