For Sale: 1939 Crosley Coupe in Branson, Missouri

Vehicle Description

The Crosley automobile was manufactured by the Crosley Corporation and later by Crosley Motors Incorporated in the United States intermittently from 1939 to 1952. Industrialist Powel Crosley, Jr., of Cincinnati, Ohio, owner of Crosley Broadcasting Corporation and the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, had ambitious plans to build a subcompact car. Together with the assistance of his younger, graduate engineer brother, Lewis Crosley, they developed assembly plants at Richmond and Marion, Indiana. In May 1939, the first car was shown at the Indianapolis Speedway. It was a two-door convertible that weighed under 1,000-pound. Crosley automobiles were designed to be marketed as America's lowest priced cars. The price of a new model was $250. They were built on an 80" wheelbase with an air-cooled 12hp Waukeshaw 2 cylinder engine. Standard models were equipped with a 6-volt electrical system, electric wipers, ammeter, oil pressure and speedometer gauges. Only 400 were produced in the second year of production. Very rare car.
