For Sale: 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer in Howard, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

This jeep was purchased at an auction in October 2013. A gentleman in his 90's was liquidating his estate and going into a retirement home. They said the jeep had a hole in the frame and wouldn't pass inspection. There was 73,200 miles on it. It looked and sounded in good condition.

Upon inspection, the fuel tank and skid plate were in much need of repairs. After removal of the fuel tank it was found the hole was in a gusset plate for mounting tank and skid plate to the frame. A new piece was fabricated and attached. The tank support and skid plate were rebuilt and installed. While we were under the vehicle we cleaned, scraped, wire brushed it and sprayed with rust transformer. Then applied rubberized undercoating every where we could. The bottom of the rocker panels were treated with rust transformer & coated with truck bed liner to prevent stone chipping and rusting. The exhaust system was replaced from the converter back. The brakes were also checked and found to be in good condition.
The rivets that hold the wood grain trim on were not sealed and was exposed to the road chemicals. This caused rust to form under the vinyl, mainly on the sides at the front and rear. The trim was removed and we tried to loosen the vinyl so it could be glued back down, but that was not to be. So, we cleaned, treated, repaired, painted and blended the areas. The vinyl was covered with a releasable camo vinyl, wood grain trim, riveted back on & all exposed rivets sealed with butyl rubber. The clear coated aluminum wheels needed work. They were worked down to good aluminum & polished and then a wheel clear coat was applied.
The engine looked good. The carburetor was rebuilt and a new battery, fuel pump and spark plugs were installed. Engine compartment was cleaned and classic black applied to inside. The interior didn't need much; it was well cleaned and leather was treated with leather new. The rear section of head liner had come loose and was sagging. We were not able to save it so it was replaced with camo cloth.
This Wagoneer came back to dealer off some kind of lease with 8,000 miles on it. Mr. Grove purchased it 7-25-91. It was mostly used as a second vehicle and for hunting and fishing. It was well maintained and garage kept. It currently has 73,814 original miles on it. This jeep is well on its was to being a classic show piece.
