The Mercedes Benz W123 models were executive cars built in Germany and it was the most successful diesel model Mercedes built. They were and still are extremely solid, reliable cars. The car gained instant popularity and within a few months after production began, a “grey” market had developed in Germany for the Mercedes-Benz W123s. Many times buyers could source these cars for a lower price and as many as 22,000 grey market Mercedes were imported into the US in one year’s time. Mercedes Benz funded a $1 million lobbying effort that resulted in a 25 year restriction.
This particular 1981 Mercedes Benz was purchased by the original owner in Europe and was imported to the US along with a few other cars. This is the only car remaining in his collection.
The exterior is Brilliant Blue and the paint is in excellent condition, on a scale of 1-10, it rates a 9. All exterior chrome and trim is also in excellent condition.
Interior is dark blue velour fabric which was a grey market option. It is in excellent condition as well.
Engine is the 6 cylinder 3.0 liter diesel engine with automatic transmission.
