variable valve timing and direct fuel injection to claim 17 mpg
city/29 mpg highway. You can actually clear 30mpg on road trips,
and the engine loafs along as though it's powering a Radio Flyer
wagon. Switch to track mode, exhaust baffles bypassed, and rip off
low 12 second 1/4 mile passes. Here's the upshot: It does both, and
it does them both really, really well. The chassis, the eight speed
transmission, the brakes...all equally adept at sitting in rush
hour traffic, canyon carving or waving goodbye to any reasonable
notion of obeying the speed limit. This redesigned and renamed
American beauty provides a new twist on its place in Corvette
history, and this particular car is that it's been well cared for
