"The 2002-05 Thunderbird was Ford's answer to fans of the 1955-57 "Baby Birds" who had clamored for the return of the car to its original two-seat format. There hadn't been a Thunderbird of any kind since 1997 and demand initially was strong when the new 11th-generation T-Bird was introduced in 2001 as a 2002 model, with sales of 31,121 units. But many critics felt the car lacked performance and was priced too high (about $50,000 in Canada) and sales fell to 14,506 in 2003, 12,671 in 2004 and just 9,220 in 2005. The cars were built on Ford's DEW98 platform shared by Lincoln LS This gave the new two-seat T-Bird a 2,723 mm wheelbase compared to the original's 2,591 mm."
