Penn Yan Boat Company whose name derives from the location of its headquarters, Penn Yan, NY, was a company founded in 1921 by a German-native by the name of Charles Herrman. Pen Yan began with wooden boats but grew into much more and began producing everything from powerboats, sailboats, canoes and rowboats. In the mid-60s they became very popular for their "Car Top" outboard boat which received its name based on its design purpose which was to fit on top of vehicles that were made then and was light and narrow enough to do so. The company was purchased by new owners in 1979 but continued producing boats until recently in 2001 when operations finally ceased.
This fine example of a 1959 Penn Yan Baltic is a great classic wood boat that has documentation dating all the way back to its original owner and is a great showing boat from inside to out. With a long history of service performed and receipts to show to its next proud owner, this is a great find for anyone interested in a hard-to-find, unique and classy boat to enjoy all summer long! This boat comes with the original 50 HP Evenrude engine but is currently hosting a more modern Force 40 HP which was put on by its current owner in 2011. With a fully refurnished interior which records show include many new panels varnished and glossed, new front seats matched to the grain of wood with a more comfortable, proper positioning cushioned seat and a full restoration within its body completed by Antique Boat Service in Cincinnati, OH.
