1956 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible with Continental Kit
Though the popular Cadillac Sedan de Ville was GM division's first
of four models during 1956, the Cadillac Series 62 became an
exemplary second-choice, especially convertible styling.
Cadillac Series 62 Model History: The 1954 model year turned out
impressive for Cadillac, starting with a redesign of basic Series
62 models. The new Caddy was lower, sleeker, and featured exhaust
tips that exited through upswept bumper extensions. A wraparound
windshield completed flowing good looks. Series 62 vehicles came
available in a variety of body styles, including a 4-door sedan,
4-door Sedan De Ville, 2-door hardtop Coupe De Ville, and highly
popular 2-door convertibles. Specifically for 1956 buyers, the
Series 62 collection received a facelift, further accentuating its
lengthy, elegant stance.
For all Series 62 Cadillacs in 1956, engine displacement was
increased to 365cid with general horsepower of 285. Most unique
with the featured car is that the engine when rebuilt was fitted
with two-4-bbl carburetion from the Eldorado engine rated at 310
horsepower. Also to correct earlier weak transmissions, 1956 Series
62 models received a major upgrade to their Hydra-matic units. For
these particular reasons, potential buyers are obtaining a most
reliably favored Cadillac in 1956. Also, for those more interested
in modification, it is an excellent condition find for a custom
build project.
Vehicle features: 365cid with two-4-bbls generating up to 310-hp,
rebuilt power-train prior to 1988, PB, PS, Hydra-matic trans,
working heater, power windows, and seats, functioning radio and
dash instrumentation, beautifully restored interior and trunk,
perfect convertible function and condition quality, new wide-white
rubber all around with matching spare, extra parts and history goes
with purchase, perfect chrome, perfectly fitted continental kit,
fender skirts, concealed in Datsun Rally Red acrylic enamel sprayed
in 1990 but showing few road-ding-badges. The car also comes with
an extra generator, starter, radio, water pump, historic photos,
background information, and numerous progressive history photos.
According to "Hagerty Pricing Value Guide," April 2015, a Series 62
Cadillac convertible as shown is a high Condition 3: A Cadillac
close to Condition 2 or 1 quality with slight improvements
necessary such as paint refreshment. Few if any interior upgrades
necessary. Number 3 convertible cars drive and run well with minor
tuning. The top will function correctly, fit and seal well, and
additionally appear as convertible-original. Such cars though not
generally driven daily are most certainly ready for any long
touring without excuses. A casual passerby would not find any
visual flaws. Very-Good is an appropriate description of a
Condition 3 historic vehicle. There were 46,000 original miles
logged on the car before restoration.
