For Sale: 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special in Santa Ynez, California
New Price: Offered here is a 1955 Cadillac Sedan. This 1955 Cadillac Series 60 Special was ordered by Mr. J.D. Graham in late 1954. In May 1953 Mr. Graham was part of the Expedition that resulted in Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay being the first montaineers to summit Mount Everest. The following year Mr. Graham was involved in a climbing accident that ended his mountaineering career. Even though air conditioning was an option, he ordered the car without it and requested a "full" red leather interior, including red leather headliner. Supposedly his habit was to drive with the windows down, even in inclement weather; perhaps a throwback to his climbing days. He also ordered the 24 K. gold license plates instead of the "standard" silver license plate upgrade as well.
In 1965 the car was aquired by the Peppers of Montecito. Over the next 20 years, Mr. Pepper drove the car to work every day. Students at Crane School and Laguna Blanca may remember it dominating the faculty parking area during the 60's and 70's. The car has been mechanically maintained by J&S East Valley Garage in Montecito from 1965 to present.
The car is in original condition and has been owned by one family since 1965 in Montecito, California near Santa Barbara. The car received a repaint sometime in the past with the interior leather upholstery and headliner intact. The car starts easily and runs extremely smooth. Optional equipment ordered on the car included power brakes, radio w/front and rear speaker, heater, E-Z-Eye glass in including the windshield, Autotronic-Eye automatic headlight dimmer and an all leather interior. The speedo and clock need repair as does the passenger side back electric window motor. Slight paint bubbling was noticed on the bottom of both back passenger side doors. This car is large and in charge when cars were built to last. This is a great cruiser as-is or would make an excellent candidate for a total restoration.
