de Tomaso acquired Maserati in 1976, he had ambitious plans for the
marque. His plan was to combine the prestige of the Maserati brand
with a sports car that would be more affordable than the earlier
high-priced models that had traditionally made up the Maserati
range. In fact, Maserati ceased making supercars like the ones
developed under Citron ownership altogether, like the Bora and
Khamsin. The Biturbo was initially a strong seller and brought
Italian prestige to a wide audience, with sales of about 40,000
units. Sales figures fell in subsequent years. De Tomaso also used
another of his companies, Innocenti, to produce Biturbo body panels
and also to provide final assembly of Biturbos. De Tomaso later
sold Maserati to Fiat, who grouped the company with their erstwhile
rival Ferrari. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this
1985 Maserati Biturbo you see. We purchased this fine auto from a
Maserati aficionado in California where the car has been since new.
Purchased by the second owner in 1990, he owned the car until 2008
when the previous owner purchased it. Between the last two owners,
thousands of dollars were invested, and we have receipts for nearly
all of the work done. We have records that go back to October 1985
as well as the original window sticker. The Rosso Corsa Red paint
on the car is in great condition and has been professionally
resprayed with a base coat / clear coat. There has been a new MIE
front air dam installed as well as a rear bumper kit which gives
the car a very sporty look. This is an extremely rare and hard to
find kit. The bumpers show no damage and are in great condition.
The hood louvers are a great addition and look great. These are one
of the many subtle enhancements that the car has which also
includes dual exhaust and fog lights. Inside, the Italian leather
looks great and shows no significant wear. The dash has been
recovered along with the door panels and headliner with alcantara
and leather. Typically you will see the headliner sagging along
with the fabric in the door panels. None of this is evident in this
car. All of the seats are in great condition and the leather looks
great. The same goes for the carpet. There has been a Kenwood
AM/FM/CD player installed that sounds great out of the Blaupunkt
speakers under factory Zendar speaker grills. Under the hood, the
twin turbo six-cylinder runs great since the recent engine
workconsisting of rebuilding the carburetor, new head gaskets,
re-sealing the upper end, replacing fuel vacuum and cooling lines
where needed, cleaning the inter-cooler and boiling the radiator.
The power is transferred to the wheels by a five-speed manual
transmission. The engine compartment is very clean and has had
polished valve covers installed as well as a polished plenum. The
motor has just had the timing belt replaced as well as the
tensioner bearing. The wheels are incredibly rare, true knock-off
16 x 7.5 chrome MonoToora Itailian wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich
G-Force T/A's that all have good tread life left on them. The trunk
is very clean and includes many books, car cover, Toora wheel tool
as well as a bin of the original parts from the car. This is an
awesome Biturbo that has been owned by two Maserati owners that
have taken great care to preserve the car and make it better then
new. This is probably one of the nicest we have ever seen. Current
mileage shows 75,007, and the VIN number is ZAMAL1108FB312480. The
car is being sold on a clean, actual mileage California title. GET
