Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse E200 W124 Sportline, 1994. Four owners,
27,602 km.
The W124 is regarded by many as the last real Mercedes. The last
one built with the idea that a car should outlast its owner.
Over-dimensioned, over-engineered, and therefore practically
indestructible. There's a reason you still see them running as
taxis in Morocco and Germany with astronomical numbers on the
odometer. The Germans called it 'ber-Ingenieurskunst', and they
were right. This generation was penned by Bruno Sacco, the man who
also has the W126 and the R129 to his name. Not the most flamboyant
designer, but the most timeless. A W124 from 1994 still looks
grown-up today, whereas so many other cars from that era now look
decidedly dated.
And on top of that, we're talking about a Sportline here. For the
uninitiated: the Sportline wasn't a separate model, but a
factory-fitted package you could order alongside it. Lowered
chassis, firmer springs and dampers, thicker anti-roll bars, and
wider rubber under the rear. Mercedes essentially built a subtly
dressed sports version that you only recognise from the outside if
you know what to look for. No spoilers, no bells, no whistles. Just
a sharp suit with a slightly keener cut. Exactly the way the
Germans intended.
The story continues on our website, where the full file is kept as
well. 86 photographs including the underside. The service history,
scanned in full. The Carfax report. Paint thickness measured panel
by panel. A timeline from 15 April 1994 to today, with every owner
and the mileage year by year in a single graph.
Every car here follows the same route: first pre-market, then the
showroom, and finally the online auction on our own website. What
changes is the way you buy, not the location - once a car has
arrived, it stays with us in Katwijk. This one is in the showroom
and you are welcome to come and see it, no appointment needed. You
buy it here at a fixed price: no bidding, no waiting. Our showroom
in Katwijk, 30 km from Amsterdam Schiphol, is open Mon-Fri 9-18 and
Sat 10-17. Call ahead and it will be standing ready, with someone
free for you.
Within the EU no customs duty arises on this purchase. Registration
tax and registration costs in your own country are not included. We
supply the export documents and assist with the registration. The
price shown is the full price for collection in Katwijk. We arrange
insured door-to-door transport worldwide, cost quoted per
destination beforehand.
Prefer a different colour or specification than this example? Tell
us what you are looking for - another Mercedes-Benz we can often
find through our network of marque specialists and collectors,
outside the listings.
Our showroom measures 6,000 m, with over 175 cars under one roof.
