If you're fans of the big TV car auctions, you've undoubtedly
noticed a trend that has been hot for about 15 years. Vintage 4x4's
have been in high demand and none more so than first generation
Ford Broncos. As a result, and as they age, subsequent generations
of Broncos are also enjoying a resurgence in desirability. Ford
took notice and reintroduced the Bronco with retro styling and
modern materials and proportions. But the Bronco's fetching the
most interest at those auctions continues to be modified first gen
classics.
For consignment, a fully rebuilt 1973 Ford Bronco showing 1,713
miles, but the true mileage is unknown. Owned and garage kept
during the six years of our consignor's ownership, this truck has
had a recent exhaust system replacement and full restoration of the
hard top.
Exterior
This Bronco looks great in a coat of two stage Rally Green Metallic
which is wonderfully complemented by the black accents including
the grille, fender flares, wheels and tires, bumpers, and soft top.
She retains the stock profile out back but in front, halo projector
headlights give the truck an updated face and they flank a Badland
winch on a custom bumper. Need to be pulled instead of rescuing
another? Beefy shackles are attached to the rear bumper. Dynamic
17-inch Raceline wheels carry 33x12.50R17LT tires with a mid 2017
date code and are head turners with their eight polished spokes.
Imperfections here include some bubbling, orange peel finish, dull
areas, chips, scuffs, filler dimples, paint runs, peeling paint on
the flares, and a touch of rust on the door corner.
Interior
Attractive black vinyl door cards fit in the doors tastefully
embossed with the Bronco name, with a touch of wear on the driver's
handle bezel. Inside, low back bucket seats are simply configured
and have weave pattern vinyl inserts while the back bench is
charcoal cloth. A green roll bar sends braces to each side of the
rear bench. Ahead of the wood rimmed steering wheel on a newer
column is a single round gauge housing all of the pertinent
information and ample billet knobs take up the right side of the
column, each nicely labeled with clear text. An Alpine AM/FM/CD
unit is in the dashboard, just above the vintage range selector
that is floor mounted over black twist carpet covering the entire
floor.
Drivetrain
Under the hood we have a 302ci V8 with an Edelbrock 4-barrel
carburetor and a C4 3-speed automatic transmission behind it. Power
is routed to the Ford 9" axle in back and the Dana 44 in front,
both with 3.50 gears. Headers, power brakes and power steering are
on board and the rig runs on a 12 volt system.
Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath with some patina and a bit of rust on
body braces and inner panels. Dual exhaust travels through
glasspack style mufflers and exits behind each rear wheel. Radius
arm and coil springs are found up front and leaf springs supply
suspension in back. Brakes are power all around with disc up front
and drums in back.
Drive-Ability
We take a big step up and are perched in this tall green Ford where
we bring the trusty 302 to life and send this 4x4 across the
tarmac. We have good power underfoot and big tires for secure
footing while side mirrors on both doors provide a good view of the
road behind We note the horn and reverse lights are not working but
all other functions operate as they should, and you'll find this
lean, green machine in the truck room! While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
The craze is not over. These are some of the most desirable
vehicles in the collector world today and if you don't like
compliments and questions, this might not be the truck for you. But
if you want an appealing, well sorted classic Bronco, look no
further than this one. Get your lasso skills in order to snag this
wild horse.
